Hoc est Macc

I was well-chuffed to pop down to St Michael’s today and see the Macclesfield embroidery.  This was a community project created and facilitated by Becca Smith and Ailsa Holland to commemorate the Bayeux Tapestry coming to the UK later this year. Macc folk were invited to embroider small images to represent our lovely town and its history, using the stitches and style of the Bayeux Tapestry.  I did the Barnaby Mill.  I couldn’t visualise how the whole thing would be put together but when I saw it I was blown away.  It looks really great and I felt very proud to have been a part of it.  It’s an amazing achievement by Becca and Ailsa, to research and design the whole thing and co ordinate all the many contributors.  I’d have been having kittens at the thought of having to gather in all those individual pieces and then put them together to the deadline!! It gives me nightmares just thinking about it. It really was worth it though – it looks stunning.  If you haven’t seen it, it will be on display again at the Silk Museum in September as part of Textile Heritage Week.  Don’t miss it!
