A Busy Day!

Well, yesterday was a very busy day. This was the critical one, as everyone needed to attach the heads and legs they’d made to the bodies and start making them look like actual animals. The attaching is usually pretty straightforward, once they’ve had overnight to dry. Unfortunately, for some reason, ours were still a bit soft and damp. Most unusual! I can only put it down to humidity. We’d been commenting on Monday about how muggy it was. Making holes in slightly soft fragile papier mache is a whole other thing! It all worked out OK,  although, as one person put it, there was one stage when they just looked like potatoes with legs. But that’s papier mache for you.

This was the only day that I’d scheduled a taught session in the afternoon as well as the morning so we could get all the initial modelling done. It was quite full on! They were all a bit pooped by the time we knocked off for Glenthorne’s legendary afternoon tea. It’s really exciting to see the animals starting to come together. They’re looking great! I learned my lesson and put them all in the drying room overnight – no more soggy bottoms!
